I am pregnant or trying to get pregnant can I have the vaccine?

Yes. The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) updated their advice on 16 April 2021, stating that all pregnant women should be offered the COVID-19 vaccine as part of the UK roll out. You will be offered the vaccine at the same time as the rest of the population, based on your age and clinical risk group.

You don’t have to make the decision alone, and we would encourage you talk it through with your doctor or midwife. They will be able to discuss with you the benefits and potential risks of vaccination, based on your personal situation. Pregnant women should be offered the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines where possible as these vaccines have been given to over 90,000 pregnant women in the US with no safety concerns.

The information in the here will help you make an informed decision about whether to get the COVID-19 vaccine if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant.

Further information on COVID-19 vaccines, pregnancy and breastfeeding is available from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
