Good Practice for Managing Smoking in the Workplace

  • Develop a smoke-free policy for your workplace - work towards a smoke-free site. Think about your organisations’ approach to e-cigarettes. If you are new to e-cigarettes, use the Public Health Wales position statement to get an overview of the health considerations. Further support to help you integrate e-cigarettes into a smoking policy is available from Action on Smoking and Health Wales (ASH Wales).
  • Allow staff to attend smoking cessation support during working hours without loss of pay.
  • Consider raising smoking as standard practice during return to work interviews following a period of sickness absence.
  • Promote, participate and engage the workforce about smoking and tobacco related campaigns
  • Stay up to date with changes across health and wellbeing by signing up for the Healthy Working Wales e-bulletin.
