Plentyn Gwent Child Early Years Surveillance Tool (2014)

Key Messages

This product has been superseded by the Pregnancy and childhood surveillance tool available here.

The new product contains data for all Wales local authorities and incorporates some changes to the indicator definitions.

An interactive surveillance tool reporting on indicators relating to the health of children living in the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area has been published. The tool provides indicators for each local authority within the health board area showing the local authority’s data alongside comparative information at the health board and Wales level.  This has been produced as a pilot project as part of the surveillance workstream of the Public Health Wales Early Years Programme.

The Plentyn Gwent Child Early Years Surveillance Tool covers a range of topics in relation to children including:

  • poverty and homelessness
  • children in need
  • overweight and obesity
  • teenage conceptions and live births
  • children up to date with immunisations
  • decayed, missing and filled teeth
  • emergency admissions for injury
  • infant and child mortality
  • health visitor and social worker provision

Explore Data Further

The interactive tool shows the local authority’s data alongside a comparison for the health board and Wales.  Trend data has been included wherever possible, showing progression over the period.

Update Schedule

It is anticipated that these indicators will be superseded in 2016 by the Public Health Outcomes Framework. This will support the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act by setting out a vision for public health, desired outcomes and a wider set of indicators that will help us understand how well public health is being improved and protected.
