Older People Indicators (2012)

Key Messages

A series of older people indicators have been produced for the seven health board areas.  A considerable number of older people in Wales are healthy, physically active and living independent lives.

However as the number of older people in Wales rises, it is likely that there will be an increase in the prevalence of chronic conditions which are strongly age-related, such as circulatory and respiratory diseases and cancers. Meeting the needs of these individuals will be a key challenge.

Explore Data Further

The indicators are available in two formats:

  • Seven health board reports (see below) which contain the charts and main tables
  • Individual Excel files for each indicator (see below) containing metadata, notes, charts and/or tables

The indicators do not include 2011 Census data, because this information is yet to be released. Indicators based on the 2001 Census data can be accessed in the Health Needs Assessment 2006: Older people report.
