This course will teach you how to apply proven methods and techniques to enhance the reliability of your healthcare processes.
Reliability in healthcare means providing high-quality care to the right patient, at the right time, in the right place, and with the right treatment. Reliable processes are essential for ensuring safety, effectiveness, efficiency, and reducing variability and waste. However, human error is unavoidable, so we need to design our processes and systems to minimise the chances of mistakes and mitigate their consequences.
In this half-day course, you will learn the basics of reliability in healthcare, how to measure and improve it, and how to use a tool called Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and prevent potential failures in your processes. By the end of this course, you will have the skills and knowledge to create more reliable processes and deliver better care to your patients and staff.
This course covers the following topics:
What is reliability in healthcare and why is it important?
How to measure reliability in your processes and identify gaps and opportunities for improvement
How to prevent and mitigate unreliable processes using human factors principles and strategies
How to use FMEA to analyse your processes, identify potential failure modes, and prioritize actions to reduce risks and improve reliability
How to develop and implement a reliable process

If you want to improve the processes and systems in your healthcare setting, this half day course is for you. You will learn how to apply the principles of process mapping and learn which types of process map you could use to support your workplace. This course is a good follow-up for those who have undertaken other improvement courses, as it builds on what you have learned.
Process mapping shows you what, when, where, who and how things happen in a process or system. It helps you see how things work and how to improve them. This course will teach you how to use process mapping effectively in your work and help you to identify wastes in your processes to make improvements. Here is a short animation that explains more about process mapping:
