Fun Foundations was established in 2010 and has since opened a second setting in Llantwit Major. We employ 19 staff at their Cowbridge site who care for a number of children from the age of six weeks. We pride ourselves on holding a number of awards relating to both employees and children within our care.
When staff return from maternity leave, we conduct a welcome back where we will discuss/ask of any requests relating to breastfeeding. We may already be aware if a member of staff is breastfeeding if they choose to have keep in touch days. We will carry out a risk assessment for the member of staff and outline any requests and how we will work to fulfil them. The risk assessment will then be reviewed in staff one-to-ones and appraisals.
We have a designated staff room and area with comfortable seating where staff will be able to express when required. They can store any milk in our fridge which is then taken home by the member of staff at the end of the day.
We have had instances where staff have chosen to bring their children to be cared for by our setting when they return to work. If those staff were still breastfeeding, and chose to breastfeed during the day, we would support this and understand the importance of staff feeling valued when returning from maternity leave.
We want to ensure that we are meeting the needs of every child in our care and by doing this we are making sure that they are able to get the nutrients they require. This shows we are adhering to their care and wellbeing. In turn, this also gives mums who are returning from maternity leave a sense of comfort, knowing that their children can still continue their breastfeeding journey. We are raising awareness for a number of health campaigns directed at both employees and children in our care annually. We are proud to have and will continue to support breastfeeding awareness week.
