Thank you for your request dated 14 September 2022.  Responses to your questions are below.
1.  How many members of staff do you employ to translate (Welsh-English-Welsh)?

Yes

4b.What was your annual spend for 2019/20, 2020/21, 2021,22 and the first quarter of 2022/23 with the companies on the National Procurement Framework for Translation and Interpretation Services?

The figures for spend with companies from the Framework in question follows. Please note that at least one of these companies provides translation for us for languages other than Welsh (e.g. other community languages, BSL) and there is no way of determining how much has been spent on individual languages. Note also that this figure will include the cost of interpretation as well as translation – there is no way to separate that out: 
•    2019/20: £152,083.27
•    2020/21: £161,969.16
•    2021/22: £188,800.95
•    2022/23 Q1: £33,107.26

Our teams have full contact details of the Framework and are able to use whichever of the companies can offer them the best service at the time. The number of companies engaged during the time period in question is:

A service-level agreement is in place with NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership to provide some translation services.

Yes

It is impossible to separate out the cost of interpretation and translation on our finance systems – the costs of this will be included within our response to question 4b.
