Are you interested in becoming a Facilitator and helping colleagues in managing working relationships?

Published: 7 April 2021

Healthier Working Relationships, (Intranet link) our new approach to conflict resolution within the workplace, will now be launching on 1 June.

Whilst the approach includes the introduction of a new Respect and Resolution Policy, most of the change requires us to think and behave differently, encouraging us to deal with issues as soon as possible, taking action ourselves wherever we can, without the need to resort to formal process.

We might sometimes need other people to help us have a difficult conversation though, so we have been working in close partnership with Trade Union (TU) colleagues to develop a Facilitation Network, which will enable colleagues to ask for someone to facilitate a meeting.

We are therefore looking for people to act as Facilitators.   It’s likely that all of us will have experienced difficult times and relationships in our careers, or seen it happen to colleagues.  Stepping up to be a facilitator will really help and benefit staff as individuals, as team members and will also have a positive impact on service delivery and the organisation.

People and OD and TU colleagues are purposefully taking a step back to make sure this is a very transparent and objective process, hence why we need volunteers as facilitators.

Taking on the role of facilitator will help those volunteering increase skills inside and outside work and is also an excellent development opportunity.  Time and support will be given so those taking on the role are adequately trained and have the time needed for the role.

Anyone with the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience can apply; we want to create networks that reflect the diverse nature of our organisation.

It’s important to say that the new network is not intended to replace advice and support from either a TU representative or the HR Advisory Team. Rather, it provides an additional option for colleagues in resolving issues informally.

Further information has been provided below, but we’ll also be holding informal lunch and learns about each role, via MS Teams, on Wednesday, 14th April at 12.30 (Click here to join the meeting).

Alternatively, questions can be addressed to People Support Plus or by calling 02921 674976.

The deadline for Expressions of Interest is midday on Wednesday 21st April.   Follow up discussions will be held via MS Teams on the morning of 26th April.
