I am registered with my GP as an FtM/trans man, do I need a smear?

Cervical Screening Wales currently invites women aged 25 – 49 years to attend for every three years and women aged 50-64 year every 5 years.
If you are an FtM/trans man, registered as male, who is between 25–64 and you still have a cervix we recommend that you still have your smear test. However as you are registered as male you will not automatically be called for a smear test. If this applies to you, speak to your GP or practice nurse who will be able to advise you.

If you have already had a total hysterectomy you will no longer need to have smear test.

If you are not sure if you need a smear test, you can speak to your GP or practice nurse or you can telephone your local Cervical Screening Wales, screening office. All calls to the Cervical Screening Wales, screening office will be treated in the strictest confidence.
