1. Do you remove teeth (premolar) or others from patients before the age of 21, as part of orthodontic treatment?
2. If so, how long has this been standard practice?
3. Are you aware of the associated risks to reducing jaw growth as a result of extracting teeth during the patient growth stage? (Under 21).
4. Have you had any complaints from patients who you removed teeth from as part of their orthodontic treatment, who have gone on to develop restricted breathing and sleep apnea as a result of reduced jaw growth caused by your tooth extraction? If so, how many?
Thank you for your recent Request.
Public Health Wales (PHW) does not hold this information.
PHW dental public health team does not provide any orthodontic treatment to patients. Health Boards in Wales provide orthodontic treatment through their hospital or community dental services or commission orthodontic treatment from independent orthodontic practices.
PHW is the public health service for Wales and as such is an independent NHS Trust. Therefore, do not have access to this information. As an organisation we have no jurisdiction over the activities of Health Boards and other NHS Wales organisations. This means we frequently do not have access to the data that they produce. I have provided contact details for the Health Boards below, you would need to contact them individually for the information they hold.
