FOI 2024 010 - Gender change effect on NHS number

Information Requested:

Please could I request the following information:

The total number of requests received to change the gender marker of an NHS number or patient record.

The total number of new NHS numbers issued because of a request change to gender marker.

The number of requests received to change the gender marker of an NHS number (or patient record) each year from 1/1/1999 to 31/12/2023.

The number of new NHS numbers issued because of a change to gender marker each year from 1/1/1999 to 31/12/2023.

The ‘process for registering a patient gender re-assignment’ published on Primary Care Support England (2021) website states that to change a gender marker a new NHS number will be issued. Is it the case that a new NHS number would be issued when changing a gender marker in Wales?
