FOI 2023 140 - Invasive Pneumococcal Disease

Information Requested:

I would like to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act, if possible.

- Number of Cases of AND deaths from Invasive Pneumococcal Disease (IPD) in Wales for each year from 2018 - 2023 (or 2018 - 2022 if 2023 information is not available yet) for children under 16, broken down into as many specific age groups as possible (eg under one year olds, 12-23 month olds, 2-3 year olds etc).

- What proportion/percentage of these cases and deaths in each age range were caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes included in the Prevenar 13 vaccine.

- Of the children in each age range who had IPD caused by a serotype included in the Prevenar 13 vaccine, how many had received a full course of Prevenar 13, how many had received no Prevenar and how many had received a partial course (eg they missed doses).

Similarly, broken down into each age range, what proportion of those who died from IPD caused by a serotype included in the Prevenar 13 vaccine had received full or partial courses of Prevenar, or were totally unvaccinated with Prevenar 13?

What proportion of children in each category had underlying health conditions at the time that they suffered from/died from IPD?
