FOI 2023 08 - Agency Spend

Information Requested:

Please could you confirm how much the NHS in Wales spent on Agency staff in 2021 and then in 2022?

Information provided for the answer:

Thank you for your recent request dated 9th January 2023.

Agency spend for Public Health Wales is published in our Annual Report and Accounts:

•    2021-22 expenditure on Agency staff £5.112m. See page 227 of our Annual Report and Accounts (link below):
https://phw.nhs.wales/about-us/annual-report/annual-report-2021-22-full-document-including-accounts/

•    2020-21 expenditure on Agency staff £2.731m. See page 221 of our Annual Report and Accounts (link below):
https://phw.nhs.wales/about-us/annual-report/annual-report-2020-21-full-document/

Please note these figures are not for all NHS Wales, it is important to note that Public Health Wales is the public health service for Wales and as such is an independent NHS Trust. This is NOT the same as NHS Wales. As an organisation we have no jurisdiction over the activities of Health Boards and frequently do not have access to the data that they produce.

I have provided contact details for each Health Board below, I suggest you contact them for the information you require.
