What is mental wellbeing?

Mental wellbeing belongs to everyone but it may mean different things to different people; each person will have their own view on what it means to be mentally well.  Mental wellbeing affects how people grow and develop; it influences how they cope with normal stresses of life, how they work and the way in which they participate in family and community life.   Mental wellbeing is an important area of public health as it determines both overall health and happiness.  For this reason it is important that we help children to understand and manage their own mental wellbeing.
