Can Patient Group Directions (PGDs) be used for occupational health vaccinations?

Occupational Health Services (OHS) have previously been included in the seasonal influenza immunisation PGD because of its benefits to service, scale of practice and the use of registered practitioners other than nurses to deliver influenza immunisation. However, OHS has a written instruction exemption provided in Schedule 17 of the Human Medicines Regulations (2012) as revised. The current UKHSA influenza PGD template does not include occupational health, so NHS organisations are required to determine and provide their own mechanisms (PGD, PSD or written instruction) to deliver wider occupational health influenza and other OHS immunisations.
