Covid-19 6m to 4y video transcript

Hello, my name is Hawys Youlden and I am Lead Nurse for Immunisation in Public Health Wales. Your child is being called for the vaccine because some children with certain health conditions are at an increased risk of serious illness or needing hospital admission following Covid-19 infection. Getting vaccinated is a safe and effective way of protecting your child from serious illness and hospital admission.

Your child would be offered a lower dose of that offered to older children. The vaccine is safe, effective and recommended for use in children. They would be offered two doses with a gap of eight weeks between them. Like all vaccines, the safety and efficacy of the vaccine has been through rigorous clinical trials. Like all medicines, vaccines can cause side effects.

Most of them are mild and don't last long, and not everyone will get them. The most common side effects should only last a day or two, and these could be pain and redness at the injection site; tiredness; and a fever. Children under two years of age may also be sleepy, irritable and have a loss of appetite.
