What will be different when I go to my colonoscopy?

Your screening colonoscopy appointment may be slightly different than normal.

  • You may be asked to complete a questionnaire or your screening nurse will ask you additional questions to assess your individual risk
  • You will be asked to self-isolate for 14 days before the procedure
  • If you or a member of your household develops symptoms of Covid-19 you will be asked to contact your screening nurse to inform them.  If you have symptoms you may be asked to arrange a test to decide whether the colonoscopy needs to be deferred/extra precautions need to be taken
  • You may need to wait outside the endoscopy unit until you are called in.
  • You will be asked to wear a surgical face mask to protect yourself and the environment and will be asked to use hand sanitizer before coming into the building.
  • Reception may be split with a plastic shield to avoid contact.
  • Staff may be wearing eye and face protection during the colonoscopy procedure to protect them against any potential contamination during the procedure.
  • Make sure you maintain the two meter rule between people in public space or our premises at all times.  This will not be possible during the procedure, but additional precautions will be in place
  • You will be contacted by the screening nurse at 7 and 14 days after your colonoscopy to make sure that you have received your results and to ask you some questions about Covid-19
