Prevention in primary care settings

There is a pressing need to transform the health and care system, of which primary care is a key component, towards an approach that prioritises prevention.

Primary Care Division support for the development of a system-level, coordinated approach to prevention in primary care includes:

  • Prevention in clinical settings

Production of a framework to support a coordinated approach to prevention in clinical settings.

  • Prevention in non-clinical settings

Exploiting opportunities to work with system-wide partners in order to improve prevention and well-being activity within the community.

  • Maximising opportunities to support the delivery of national prevention programmes e.g. Making Every Contact Count (MECC) and the National Exercise Referral Scheme (NERS).
