One moderate quality study(12) examined the effectiveness of a home-based self-directed exercise intervention, consisting of twice-daily stretching exercises, in improving outcomes for patients awaiting TKR. This was compared to a control group receiving no intervention. The duration of the intervention differed between participants, with patients being enrolled onto the study when they joined the surgical waiting list and waiting an average of three months until the surgery.
Range of Motion outcomes:
Might be effective (one moderate quality study showing significant effects for knee range of motion measurements in the intervention group when compared to control (12).
Pain:
Might be effective (one moderate quality study showing a significant effect for the intervention compared to control) (12).
