Well-being of Future Generations Act projections 2017

The intention of the Well-being of Future Generations Act is to make public bodies consider the longer term in their planning and activities. In doing so they should work to prevent problems worsening, or even from occurring and to aim towards improvement.

Key Messages

The intention of the Well-being of Future Generations Act is to make public bodies consider the longer term in their planning and activities. In doing so they should work to prevent problems worsening, or even from occurring and to aim towards improvement.

These tools show historic and projected trends for components of the three adult Well-being of Future Generation Act health indicators. The projected trends indicate what would happen if historic patterns continue and the population changes in line with forecasts.

It is unknown if historic patterns will continue and in some instances it will be undesirable for them to do so. As current or future work will seek to change historic patterns, these projections may represent what is to be avoided rather than what is to be planned for.

Available in English and Welsh, the tools cover different geographical levels, with correspondingly different levels of drill down:

Supported by a technical guide (.pdf), these tools are intended to be used by public bodies identified within the Act. They are also likely to be useful for anyone else involved in the design or delivery of policies or services which contribute directly or indirectly to improvements in population health and reducing health inequalities.

Access The Data

The historic and projected trend data shown are available in a spreadsheet and can be downloaded from within the tools.

All of the measures in these projection tools are also in the Public Health Outcomes Framework, which was developed to help understand the impact which individual behaviours, public services, programmes and policies have on health and well-being in Wales. A number of Public Health Outcomes Framework tools are also available that allow various comparisons of historical data.
