Mental health problems are the largest single cause of disability in the UK. Good mental wellbeing impacts upon both physical and mental health, helping individuals realise their full potential make healthy choices, cope with the challenges that life throws at them, work productively and contribute to their family life and communities. The Hapus programme is a population-level, multi-faceted approach to promoting mental wellbeing being implemented in Wales from 2022-2027 by Public Health Wales. It aims to support population-level mental wellbeing and to reduce inequalities in mental wellbeing. The Research and Evaluation division, based in Public Health Wales are undertaking an evaluation of one of the Hapus workstreams, which is to develop a strategic partnership to influence population-level mental wellbeing. Your participation in this evaluation will help us gain valuable insights that will help us to understand the effectiveness of the partnership and its activities moving forward.
Before you decide whether you would like to take part, it is important that you understand why this is being done and what it involves for you.

1. Why is this study being done?
This study will involve completing an e-survey to understand your reflections on the Hapus Strategic Partnership. We hope that representatives of all partner organisations will complete the survey. Your participation in this evaluation will help us to understand if the Hapus programme is meeting its objective of facilitating collaboration and greater understanding of mental wellbeing across its partner organisations. The output will be a report shared with the Health Improvement team at Public Health Wales who are leading on the organisation of Hapus.
2. Why have you asked me to take part?
You have been invited to take part because you have been identified as a representative of one of the organisations currently part of the Hapus strategic partnership.
3. What is involved?
You will be sent a link to the e-survey, which you can complete at your convenience. The survey will begin by collecting your consent to participate, followed by a series of questions. It should take around 10 minutes to complete. You do not have to answer any questions that you do not wish to. Taking part in the study is voluntary and you can withdraw at any time before you press submit on the final page. Once you have submitted your responses, the data will be anonymous and it will therefore not be possible to withdraw your responses.
4. What questions are asked?
The survey will ask you some general questions about the work of your organisation and your reflections on the Hapus Strategic Partnership. There are no right or wrong answers.
5. What are the possible benefits of taking part?
By taking part in the evaluation, you will help improve our understanding of the effectiveness of the Hapus strategic partnership. This will also help to inform the way Hapus is delivered moving forward, including way the partnership can be more beneficial for your organisation.
6. What are the possible risks of taking part?
We do not envisage any risks associated with taking part in this study. Your response will be anonymous.
7. Do I have to take part?
No. It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. Taking part in the survey is entirely voluntary. You are free to stop at any time, and you do not have to give a reason.
8. How will you protect my information and what will happen to the results?
It is important to us that all your information is safe. All information you provide will be stored securely for evaluation use, and in a way that it will not be possible to know which person they came from, in accordance with Data Protection Laws and in line with GDPR.
The responses you provide will be anonymous.
We will not collect, nor share, any of your personal information.
For analysis the data will be stored on a password-protected computer, with strict controls in place to limit who can see this (e.g. for analysis or related evaluation purposes), and the data will be deleted when it is no longer needed.
The data will be stored in such a way that it will not be possible to know which person the information came from, and securely in line with GDPR.
Once we have finished the study, we will keep some of the data so we can check the results.
We will write our reports in a way that no-one can work out that you took part in the study.
Once the report is completed, the anonymised data will be retained for 6 years, in line with GDPR.
Information that you give us in the survey will only be disclosed to the relevant services if a safeguarding issue is shared with researchers. In this instance, the relevant information will need to be shared with the relevant services, in-line with the Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act.
The findings will be presented in the form of reports, journal articles, presentations and engagement events. It is expected that the findings will be available by December 2024. 9. Who has reviewed this evaluation?
The study has been reviewed and approved by the Public Health Wales Research and Development Office.
