What is Emergency Laparotomy Cymru?

The three year programme focusses on improving both surgical outcomes and overall hospital experience for patients undergoing an emergency laparotomy. The team are working with 13 hospitals across Wales to trial improvements.

What work is Emergency Laparotomy Cymru doing?

The programme follows the Emergency Laparotomy Collaborative UK model. The Emergency Laparotomy Cymru programme is working with multi-disciplinary teams in the 13 hospitals involved and there are three clinical leads progressing the work across local regions.

The team work with health boards across Wales as well as experts across the UK to inform their work.

What are the next steps for Emergency Laparotomy Cymru?

The programme was launched in July 2018. Improvements are currently being tested in hospital sites and will be used to further improve the All Wales outcome measures.
