What is Care Home Cymru?

The three year programme of work was set up to improve the quality of care for older people living in care homes in response to the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales report A Place to call home impact and analysis and Welsh Governments A Healthier Wales.

What work is Care Home Cymru doing?

There are three phases to the work:

  • Phase one - 16 care homes across Wales will form part of a network to develop and shape the programme.
  • Phase two – establishing a virtual care home collaborative to nurture and support a culture of continuous learning and development
  • Phase three – further scale and spread to additional care homes across Wales

What are the next steps for Care Home Cymru?

Staff from 16 Care Homes across Wales have taken part in Improvement Basics  training to give them the skills they need to understand quality improvement.  Further staff from the Care Homes have undertaken Improvement in Practice training to support them to make successful changes to the way they work.

Care Home Cymru is supporting these Care Homes throughout their improvement journey to produce a project can be shared amongst peer groups.

Phase two of the programme will begin in March 2021.
