The purpose of the fund is to provide small grants, £25,000 (maximum) per project, to support research that has the potential to deliver improvements and innovation in health and care delivery.

The research should align with the priorities of the Public Health Wales NHS Trust strategy and Improvement Cymru. The funding will be awarded during the 2021-22 financial year. Wider collaboration with partner organisations is welcome.

Right to participate criteria:

All applications must demonstrate ways in which the research supports the delivery of better health and care services. Such studies can be qualitative, quantitative or secondary research and evidence synthesis, and should clearly demonstrate how they could develop further into a larger scale study of demonstrable value to the NHS and social care.

Applications are particularly welcome in the following areas:

  • Digital solutions to support improvements in patient safety.
  • Innovation in the delivery of care.
  • Reduce hospital waiting times for planned and advanced care planning.
  • Models for integrating unscheduled care and supporting care closer to home.
Deadline for applications
Applications for the scheme will close at 17:00 25 February 2022.

Late applications will not be considered.

The research is expected to start on or shortly after 1 April 2022.
