Information Requested:

Under the Freedom of Information Act, I would like to request information concerning radionuclide supply and usage by the NHS in Wales.  

  

In the requested information, please note: 

When I use the terms “NHS”, I mean the national health service as in operation in Wales.  

Please do not limit your searches to documentation using only the word “radionuclide”. Relevant information may also use the terms “radioisotope” or “radiopharmaceuticals”, for example. 

I request information broken down by calendar year. If you hold the data in a format using a different time period categorisation, such as financial years, please use this, but state that you are doing so. 

  

I request the following information: 

  

Usage 

Number of medical applications for which radionuclides were used, broken down by radionuclide (e.g., Technetium-99m, Iodine-131, etc) and application type. 

In this calendar year. 

In each of the past five calendar years. 

Total quantity of specific radionuclides used in medical applications, broken down by radionuclide and application type. 

In this calendar year. 

In each of the past five calendar years. 

Type of medical applications for which radionuclides have been used, broken down by radionuclide. 

In this calendar year. 

In each of the past five calendar years. 

The names of the establishments (hospitals, laboratories etc) and organisations (trusts etc) under the control or direction of the NHS, that utilise radionuclides. 

  

Supply 

The source of the supply of the radionuclides used by the NHS, broken down by specific radionuclide (e.g., Technetium-99m, Iodine-131, etc), supplier, and country. 

In this calendar year. 

In each of the past five calendar years. 

The cost of the supply of the radionuclides used by the NHS, broken down by specific radionuclide, amounts, providers, and countries. 

In this calendar year. 

In each of the past five calendar years. 

The percentage of radionuclides imported for usage by the NHS, and from which countries. 

In this calendar year. 

In each of the past five calendar years. 

  

Future Supply and Demand 

Any forecasts or analyses on future supply and demand for radionuclides within the NHS, whether in the form of reports or as standalone data. 

Any strategies or plans created by or for the NHS to ensure the continuous supply of radionuclides.

Public Health Wales does not use or supply radionuclide.  

 

Public Health Wales is the public health service for Wales and as such is an independent NHS Trust. Therefore, do not have access to this information. As an organisation we have no jurisdiction over the activities of Health Boards and other NHS Wales organisations. This means we frequently do not have access to the data that they produce.  I have provided contact details for all the Health Boards below as they may have information in relation to this request.
