FOI 2023 61 - Excess Deaths

Information Requested:

II have come to learn that U.K. excess deaths in 2022 exceeded those of 2020/21 and I am looking for someone who would be able to answer the following questions please.
1. Why were excess deaths higher in 2022 than in 2020 and 2021 when we were in the midst of a deadly pandemic?
2. Why are excess deaths higher after the pandemic has run its course than during the pandemic?
3. As there seems to be no other common denominator, what part have the COVID-19 vaccines played in these increased rates of mortality?
4. Is Public Health Wales currently investigating whether COVID-19 vaccines are, at least in part, responsible for the increased rates of mortality we are experiencing?

Information provided for the answer:

Thank you for your recent request dated 1st May 2023.
Public Health Wales does not hold the information in the requested form and are not investigating currently whether vaccines are responsible for excess deaths.
