Our role

Public Health Wales works with others to help reduce air pollution, risks and inequalities.

Our broad role ranges from reactive environmental health protection activities (e.g. to prepare for, and help respond to, acute incidents) to proactive environmental public health actions (e.g. to influence planning and community design, and to encourage more walking, cycling and use of public transport). We also publish researchreviews and other resources to support policy development and evidence-based action.

Recognising that acting to improve the quality of the air we breathe is a priority, we have set out in guidance how we are working with our wider NHS partners to reduce air pollution, risks and inequalities.
