What has changed?

The interval between cervical screening invitations will be extended from 3 to 5 years for some women and people with a cervix. This change began on 1 January 2022, and will only affect those aged 25 – 49 if HPV is not found in their next routine cervical screening sample. It will not affect those who are on treatment or early repeat pathways where their last test showed the presence of HPV.

People under 50 who were told after their last test that they will be invited in 12 months’ or three years’ time will still receive their invitations as originally stated. This change only applies after their next test if HPV is not found.
