Recruitment of non-executive director to Public Health Wales

The Minister for Health and Social Services is looking to appoint a new Non-Executive Director to join the Public Health Wales Board

As a non-executive director, you’ll use your skills and experience to make a contribution to our vision: Working to achieve a healthier future for Wales.
 
In delivering our vision, Public Health Wales plays a pivotal role in driving improvements in population health and well-being, reducing health inequalities, improving healthcare outcomes, protecting the public and supporting the development of health in all policies across Wales.

You’ll be joining us at an exciting time, as we set out implementing our long-term strategy. Our ambition for the people of Wales is that by 2030 they will: 

  • have a more equal chance of living a fulfilling life, free from preventable ill health 
  • know how to support their families’ mental well-being, that supports everyone to be mentally healthy citizens with greater resilience and a greater level of mental well-being 
  • live in an environment and society in which healthy choices are the easy choices; and in a Wales where 
  • children will have achieved their full potential  

We want a Wales:

  • with population health services and interventions that are based on world class intelligence and analysis, giving maximum return on investment
  • where the balance has shifted from hospital to community based care; reduced burden of disease from long term conditions with reduced incidence, improved early detection and survival outcomes; and also a Wales where  
  • with a focus on prevention and early intervention 
  • with reduced infections and which is prepared for and able to deal with the expected effects of climate change

Role information 

Local Authority role (0.5 post – approximately 2 days per month)

You will have recently worked in, or will still be working at, a senior level within a Local Authority related environment in Wales. Your understanding and appreciation of the function of Local Authorities, their challenges as well as their important role in contributing to population health will be key to your ability to fulfil this role. We are looking for someone to share this role on an equal basis alongside our existing Non-Executive Director, Alison Ward. This is a unique opportunity to share a Non-Executive Director responsibility with a requirement of approximately 2 days per month.
