Information about mpox and how to protect yourself and those around you

 

Mpox is usually a mild, self-limiting illness which resolves in a few weeks. However, it can cause severe illness in some individuals. 

Anyone can get mpox, and it is spread through close, skin-to-skin contact. Public health research suggests that it is currently spreading largely in interconnected sexual networks among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men.

Large gatherings and events

Public Health Wales would advise everyone intending to go to festivals or big events to check themselves thoroughly before they leave for any symptoms, and to call 111, a GP or a sexual health clinic if any are found.  If you know you have been exposed directly to mpox consider sitting out the event. This will help to keep everyone safe.
