Your baby’s newborn bloodspot test (heel prick test) suggests they may have cystic fibrosis (CF).
Your baby will need more tests to confirm whether they have CF.
What is CF?
CF is a rare but treatable inherited condition.
Babies with CF can produce a thick and sticky mucus that affects the lungs and digestive system. If left untreated, CF can lead to long term health problems.
With early diagnosis and treatment, babies with CF can grow and develop normally, and people with CF can live healthy, active lives.
What happen next?
A specialist team will arrange more tests to confirm whether your baby has CF.
It may take a few days for you to receive the results of these tests.
If tests confirm that your baby has CF, you will receive further support and care from the specialist team who will explain the condition in more detail, answer your questions and start treatment promptly.
