Please provide me with the following information under the Freedom of Information Act.
How many prisoners were admitted to hospital over the last five years with a notifiable disease?
If possible, if you could break the data down with which prison they were in, which hospital they were admitted to and what they were admitted/diagnosed with. If possible, please provide data broken down by year by calendar year. If you could break it down from 2018-2022 and then any data you have so far this year.
If it is not possible to provide some of the data requested, I would be grateful if you could provide whichever elements of this FOI request are eligible for release.
Thank you for your request dated 29th November 2023.
Public Health Wales do not routinely hold this information. We would not necessarily be informed about hospital admissions because of a notifiable infection.
Public Health Wales is the public health service for Wales and as such is an independent NHS Trust. As an organisation we have no jurisdiction over the activities of Health Boards and frequently do not have access to the data that they produce.
We would suggest contacting the prison healthcare teams (via local NHS Health Boards) to see if they hold this information.
I have provided contact details for each Health Board below, you would need to contact them individually for any information they may hold.
