About the National Safeguarding Service
The National Safeguarding Service in Public Health Wales provides national leadership and expert support to help keep people safe from abuse, neglect and harm across Wales. Working in partnership with NHS organisations and multi-agency colleagues, the service promotes learning, strengthens safeguarding practice, and champions compassionate, high-quality safeguarding for children, adults at risk and communities.
How We Work
Working collaboratively with stakeholders including Welsh Government, Health Boards, NHS Trusts and Regional Safeguarding Boards, the National Safeguarding Service aims to:
- Ensure safeguarding is a priority within the NHS prevention agenda.
- Enhance integration and collaboration across NHS Wales and partner agencies.
- Improve and strengthen the effectiveness of safeguarding practice.
- Influence national safeguarding priorities across NHS Wales, with a focus on quality improvement.
Designated professionals provide system leadership and independent expert safeguarding advice from an All-Wales perspective.

NHS Wales Safeguarding Network
The NHS Wales Safeguarding Network is a community of practice that brings together safeguarding leads and practitioners from across NHS organisations, Welsh Government and partner agencies. It provides a space for shared learning, support and collective problem-solving to strengthen safeguarding practice and systems.
By promoting consistent approaches, sharing expertise and driving continuous improvement, the network helps ensure that children, adults at risk and families receive safe and effective safeguarding support throughout Wales.
Governance
The Network reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and Executive Nurse Directors, helping to set priorities and disseminate learning across the wider safeguarding system.
