What is mental health and wellbeing?

The term “mental health” covers a wide range of experiences, from positive mental wellbeing to managing long-term mental health conditions.

Mental wellbeing means “feeling good and functioning well”. Improving our mental wellbeing can enhance our mental and physical health. It can also reduce the risk of depression and anxiety.

Everyone has times of poor mental wellbeing, just like with physical health. Promoting positive mental wellbeing at work benefits both employers and employees.

Workplace benefits include:

  • Happier employees
  • Less absences
  • Better work performance
  • Stronger teams
  • Lower staff turnover
