Information for Women Offered Further Tests for Suspected Chromosomal Conditions

This booklet is for women who have been informed that the baby may have a higher chance of having a chromosomal condition.

For women who have been provided with the booklet if they have had a higher chance result from the combined or quadruple screening test, please read section 10-What is amniocentesis, as well as the other sections indicated on page 2.

Newly published evidence from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists states that the risk of miscarriage following a chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or amniocentesis in a singleton pregnancy is likely to be below 0.5% of pregnancies (around 1 in 200). If you are having twins, the risk of miscarriage will be around 1% of pregnancies (1 in 100).
