Q4. We think we have isolated a metronidazole resistant anaerobe. Should we send it to the UKARU for confirmation?

Yes. Although some organisms that only grow anaerobically are intrinsically resistant to metronidazole, such as Propionibacterium spp and Actinomyces spp, others, such as the Bacteroides fragilis group and some clostridia are usually sensitive but may develop resistance. We need to closely monitor any resistance within these groups.
