Coaching for Patient Safety

Coaching for Patient Safety is part of the Safe Care Partnership, which is between NHS Wales health boards and trusts, Improvement Cymru and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).  The partnership’s aim is to coach and support health boards and trusts to improve the quality and safety of care across their systems.

Coaching for Patient Safety is one of the core elements in the Safe Care Partnership.  It is aimed at those across the NHS Wales system who have previously completed learning programmes in Improvement, such as the Improvement Advisor Programme from IHI; the Scottish Improvement Leadership Programme (ScIL) or have a practical background in improvement. Coaching for Patient Safety builds a cohort of coaching experts who have a key role within the national Safe Care Collaborative. They work with teams, executives and senior leaders for safety from both within and across all the health boards and trusts.

Coaching for Patient safety includes six half-day training sessions running from August to November 2022.  It supports development in core tools and techniques for effective coaching of safety improvement activities and supports the transition from leading an improvement project to coaching others to deliver patient safety improvements.
