Director of NHS Quality Improvement and Patient Safety / Director, Improvement Cymru

John heads up Improvement Cymru and supports the work of the whole team.

John started out as a Rheumatologist and since gained extensive experience in Improvement. He was awarded a Quality Improvement fellowship at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), sponsored by the Health Foundation and became honorary Professor at the University of Swansea. John is currently faculty for the IHI’s Improvement Coach Professional Development programme.

John’s interested in Improvement methodologies and is known for his Lego™ Serious Play™ for improvement sessions!
