About Us

Healthy Workplace, Healthy Workforce, Healthy Business

Healthy Working Wales (HWW) is a national programme that aims to improve health and prevent ill-health among the working age population by working with and through employers and workplaces. HWW is a national programme delivered by Public Health Wales free of charge to employers in Wales.

HWW supports employers to:

  • Create healthy and safe working environments and practices.
  • Take action to improve the health and wellbeing of their staff and promote healthy behaviours.
  • Prevent and manage sickness absence and supportive return to work effectively to prevent people from falling out of work due to ill-health.
  • Support those with chronic conditions to stay in work.
  • Take a proactive approach to recruiting disabled people into the workforce.

How do we do this?

We provide a digital offer to provide employers with a self-directed approach to employee and workplace health and wellbeing activity, including:

  • Expert advice and guidance plus access to interactive tools on a wide range of topics.
  • Employer case studies, podcasts, animated explainers, and infographics.
  • Action planning templates

We are currently developing:

  • Employer and employee survey tools measuring organisational readiness to take action on health and wellbeing and workforce health and wellbeing needs in order to inform priorities for action.
  • Guidance on measuring progress and evaluating impact.

We will also be offering accessible employer training and development with focus on e-learning including:

  • Webinars on workplace health approaches and benefits.
  • Workshops for employers to gain and share information and learning.
  • A mentoring programme for experienced employers to provide guidance and expertise to others.
  • A network of Workplace Health Champions across Wales to be advocates for workplace health and wellbeing.

All of the above is supported by:

  • Employer research to inform development of approaches and products.
  • Comms and engagement activities to engage employers, including through social media and a monthly e-bulletin. Subscribe here
  • Joint work with partner organisations to reach more employers, especially SMEs, such as business and sector specific bodies.

We are busy planning:

  • A new partnership with Business Wales to host materials and expand HWW’s reach.
  • Specific campaigns to target particular sectors to help address inequalities in health and priority topics which have the biggest impact on workplace health.
