In Wales, responsibility for dealing with contaminated land rests primarily with local authorities and Natural Resources Wales (NRW). Public Health Wales does not have any statutory role in the process but can offer specialist advice to help mitigate risks to the public during assessment, remediation (clean-up) and future land use.
