John Boulton appointed as NHS Director of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety/Director of 1000 Lives

I’m very pleased to be able to announce that after a successful year as the Interim Director, Dr John Boulton has been substantively appointed as the Director for NHS Quality Improvement and Patient Safety / 1000 Lives Improvement. His appointment will take effect from 1 September 2019.

Many of you will be familiar with John from his work across Public Health Wales over the last year, particularly his innovative and fun ‘rocket game’ session at our recent staff conference.

This is an exciting time for John and for 1000 Lives Improvement as Welsh Government has recently announced plans to create a new NHS Executive for Wales of which 1000 Lives Improvement will become a part.

John said, I am delighted to be given this opportunity at a time of great change for the NHS in Wales. I have enjoyed the last year at Public Health Wales and getting to know many of the fantastic people in the organisation. I look forward to continuing to support the incredible work that we do in improving the health and wellbeing of our citizens in Wales.

“Public Health Wales has been a great home for 1000 Lives Improvement. As we transition to join the NHS Executive for Wales, I’m sure the future holds many opportunities for our Directorate”.

We’ll be working with Welsh Government to support the transition in due course.
In the meantime 1000 Lives Improvement will continue to function as part of Public Health Wales.
