Week 40: 'How are we doing in Wales?' public engagement survey results

The results of the latest ‘How Are We Doing in Wales’ public engagement survey have been released by Public Health Wales.

The key findings are: 

  • 88 per cent of people think the current national lockdown is the right measure for the government to have put in place.
  • 95 per cent of people complied with Christmas Day household mixing regulations and 77 per cent did not meet people from other households between Christmas and New Year.
  • 64 per cent of those with children in the household have been worrying ‘a lot’ about their children’s education; up from 58 per cent in the last survey week.* 
  • 30 per cent of people have been worrying ‘a lot’ about their mental health and wellbeing; up from 24 per cent in the last survey week.*

Compared to this time last year:

  • 40 per cent of people say their weight has increased; 16 per cent that it has decreased.
  • 45 per cent of people say their physical fitness has worsened; 11 per cent that it has improved.
  • 48 per cent of people say their mental health has worsened; 6 per cent that it has improved.
  • 66 per cent of people say their social relationships have worsened; 4 per cent that they have improved.

The latest Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) public engagement survey report from Public Health Wales covers the period of 4th to 10th January 2021, when 601 people were surveyed.

Every two weeks, Public Health Wales conducts interviews with hundreds of people aged 18 or over across Wales, to understand how Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the measures being used to prevent its spread are affecting the physical, mental and social wellbeing of people in Wales.

The survey is part of a raft of measures implemented by Public Health Wales to support public health and wellbeing through Coronavirus.
