Professor Shantini Paranjothy is Professor of Preventive Medicine, School of Medicine, College of Biomedical and Life Sciences, Cardiff University.

Shantini qualified as a doctor from the University of Wales, College of Medicine in 1995 and worked as a junior doctor in obstetrics and gynaecology at Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust and University College London Hospitals NHS Trust. Shantini completed an MSc in medical statistics in 2000 and obtained a PhD in Epidemiology in 2004 from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Following completion of training as a Specialist Registrar in Public Health Medicine in Cardiff, Shantini was appointed as a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Public Health Medicine at Cardiff University’s School of Medicine. Shantini leads a research programme in perinatal health inequalities, has expertise in the analysis of large scale record-linked databases and cohort studies and is an experienced systematic reviewer.

Shantini is the Population Health Research Theme Lead for Cardiff University’s College of Biomedical and Life Sciences and also the Scientific Lead for HealthWise Wales, a national initiative to engage large numbers of people in Wales with health and social care research.
